We have experienced the plunders by other nations, and we have experienced the war. Yet, based on such ruins, there still stands our nation----China, unyielding and unconquerable!

I once came across an American tourist. She said, “China has a history of five thousand years, but the US only has a history of 200 years. Five thousand years ago, China took the lead in the world, and now it is the US that is leading.”My heart was deeply touched by these words. It is true that we're still a developing nation, but it doesn't mean that we can despise ourselves. We have such a long-standing history, we have such abundant resources, we have such intelligent and diligent people, and we have enough to be proud of. We have reasons to say proudly：we are sure to take the lead in the world in the future again, for our problems are big, but our ambition is even bigger, our challenges are great, but our will is evengreater.

I am Chinese. I have inherited black hair and blackeyes. I have inherited the virtues of my ancestors. I have also taken over responsibility. I am sure, that wherever I go, whatever I do, I shall never forget that I am Chinese!

Let me say that again.

The reason anyone gets depressed always comes down to the CONSISTENT thoughts we think, and the CONSISTENT beliefs we hold.

If I believe I am fat, horrible, ugly and unworthy of love, I will most likely become depressed or have depression thoughts

If my thought process is "I must be in a relationship and earn X amount to be happy" I might get depression if I don’t achieve those goals.

The point here is that anyone that is depressed, is so, because there is an external factor that didn’t materialize in their life – i.e…. (They have lost something outside of their control, or don’t have something that is out of their control) the most common reasons for depression are : a lost a job, relationship break downs or non existence, body image, comparison to others.

The only way out of this is to work on yourself, every day.

In school we are taught how to get a job, but no one teaches us how to live in a state of happiness. No one teaches us how important our conscious and unconscious thoughts and associations are.

Is our happiness not worth more than a job?

Yes it is.

And before you say, happiness won’t pay my bills – happiness WILL pay your bills, when you realize you will be 10 times more energized, focused and take positive action in your life, when you FIRST choose to develop yourself as a priority, and THEN get to all the "stuff" of the world.

I have a question for you. ‘do you know how to breathe?’ okay, i know what you are thinking now, “girl, are you kidding me? everybody knows how to breathe.” actually, if i were you sitting down in there one year ago, i would think, “how did she make it to the final?”

Alright, seriously speaking, what i am talking about is “the art of breathing”, and it’s about breathing in a yoga way: peacefully and always under control. what it reveals is the real essence of perseverance, “in order to achieve, sometimes, you need to wait.” and when it comes to things you really want in life, it is as hard as it could possibly be.

For me, singing is a life thing. when i am singing on the stage, i feel whole-heartedly involved, and the self-fulfillment it renders is inexplicably thrilling. but with all the realistic problems i need to face in life, all those i want seem too far to be true– so far that i am terrified that i will never ever be able to get there and that gradually i will be carried away by the currents and torrents of life. i’ve been drowned into this ambivalence for so long. now, with a refined perspective towards self-realization, i am waiting, in a graceful posture, and knowing that i am going to get there. and on this, i should say, i owe yoga a thank-you.

I still remember, about one year ago, i attended a yoga course for the very first time. and to tell you the truth, i went there for a nice figure. however, after practicing for some time, i discovered that there was an ineffable inner-strength burgeoning sneakily in me while i totally focused. in order not to let go this significant power, i started to picture all i wanted in my mind while i was fully concentrating, for i believe the wings of imagination could make things possible. i learned to breathe with my dreams, shaping the eagerness into this elegant gesture of persisting.

And now, if you ask me what exactly is “the art of breathing”, i would say it is indeed “the art of living”. it combines the search of balance, the grace of patience, and the awareness of appreciation.

So even though feelings are tied up with life routines, i could still hold onto that free ego which i have always adored: the girl who is singing under the spotlight, with all her heart and soul; the girl who is persevering with all she believes in and always feels grateful for what has been bestowed on her.

That girl is now standing right here in front of you, hoping that you are all as lucky as she is, living with dreams and love. no matter how tough things get, i tell myself, i tell myself that, every single thing i am doing now is every step closer to that very moment of my trajectory, just like every yoga breath to every blossom moment of my life.

We take it for granted that we must warm ourselves in winter times, yet we seldom realize the burning away of precious natural resources. We appreciate all the prosperity from the development of modern industry, yet few would give the slightest consideration to the global air and water pollution caused by industrial wastes. Our ruthless exploitation has permanently impaired our mother earth. As we tragically learned from last summers floods. we cannot continue our carelessness.

Finally, standing here at the threshold of the 21st century, we cannot help thinking of our posterity. Nature is not only the mother of the present generation, but also the mother of the generations to come. How severely our descendents will criticize us if we leave them a barren and lifeless mother? How much more they will appreciate us if we give them a world of harmony to inherit? Let us start respecting and caring for nature from now on. Let us start the campaign of creating a mutually beneficial relationship between people and nature right from this moment. With this new start, I firmly believe, that our children, and our childrens children will live in a brand new age of green trees, clean air, crystal water, blue sky and an even more promising world!

Other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the Olympic Games that cannot be seen directly. For example, more and more people will get to know China. And the games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awareness of environmental protection is being strengthened. What is more, Olympic Games give a unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of Chinese youth with the Olympic values and the Olympic spirit. Now that we have seen so many advances, could you even imagine us losing the holding rights?

I’ve already said a lot about the Olympics and China. But I think everyone should use some time to think of this question, ”Does the Olympic Games have any special meaning to you?”

For us, I mean the Chinese youth, 20xx Olympic Games is a tremendous gift. Can you help me?” “Sorry, but I don't have a house. But you can chop off my branches to build your house.” So the boy cut all the branches off the tree and left happily. The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy never came back since then. The tree was again lonely and sad.

One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted. “Come and play with me!” the tree said. “I am sad and getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?” “Use my trunk to build your boat. You can sail far away and be happy.” So the boy cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and never showed up for a long time. The tree was happy, but it was not true.

Finally, the boy returned after he left for so many years. “Sorry, my boy. But I don't have anything for you anymore. No more apples for you…” the tree said.

"I don't have teeth to bite,” the boy replied.

"No more trunk for you to climb on.”

"I am too old for that now,” the boy said.

"I really can't give you anything… the only thing left is my dying roots,” the tree said with tears.

"I don't need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years.” The boy replied.

"Good! Old tree roots is the best place to lean on and rest. Come, Come sit down with me and rest.” The boy sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears…

This is a story of everyone. The tree is our parent. When we were young, we loved to play with Mom and Dad… When we grown up, we left them, and only came to them when we need something or when we are in trouble. No matter what, parents will always be there and give everything they could to make you happy. You may think that the boy is cruel to the tree but that's how all of us are treating our parents.

对于绝大多数同学来说，英语始终是心头大患。我与大家经历相同，从4年级便被扣上了这顶帽子，每一次考试，英语总是给我拖后腿，但在一次次摸索中，我也在不断进步，总结了一些经验。正所谓“方向不对，努力白费”，正确的学习方法会使我们的学习效率大大提高，从而达到事半功倍的目的。下面是我总结的`一些学习英语的经验，希望可以供同学们参考。

第一，做好课堂笔记。顾名思义，课堂笔记便是利用课堂时间将老师所讲的重点、难点、疑点记下，千万不可以“手懒”，对于知识零碎的英语来说更是如此，好记性不如烂笔头。然后是回顾笔记，回顾笔记才是做笔记的重点，建议大家，周末时专门抽出时间回顾一下当周所做的笔记，这样能有效地缓解紧张的心理，可以让你在下一周的学习中得心应手。举个我自己的例子吧，记得有一次英语抽测，我抱着侥幸的心理，没有做好复习工作，所以考试前就开始临时抱佛脚，结果到了最后，根本没有时间复习完，考试时慌慌张张，考得一塌糊涂。所以说，做好笔记对于学生来说十分重要。

第二，整理回顾错题，对于很多同学来说，都能做到整理错题，但重点是我们不仅仅要整理，更要回顾与反思。所谓“好马不吃回头草”对我们学生万万不可适用，要想成功挤过中考这座独木桥，就必须回顾自己的错题，也防止再出现类似的失误。再举个例子吧，我开始和很多同学一样只是纠一下错，之后就不管了，但是有一次考试，我真记得做过某一题，就是忘了怎么做，结果不仅没做出题，心情也糟糕透顶，考试结果可想而知惨不忍睹，后来我学着经常回顾错题本，慢慢地积累，厚积薄发，考试也不再出现类似的失误。

第三，要利用零碎的时间。英语是一门需要长期积累的科目，知识点很多，一定要好好利用互联网、学习机和其他移动方便的设备，更不用说书籍和杂志这样的传统学习资源！你完全可以在课间、排队、午休等时间记几个单词，要养成“天天英语”的习惯，每天按老师的要求作一篇完形阅读，坚持天天听英语。其实学英语的过程更像是一朵云的形成，是水汽的一点点积累；而不像砌一面墙那样，把砖堆上去就好。

对于绝大多数同学来说，英语始终是心头大患。我与大家经历相同，从4年级便被扣上了这顶帽子，每一次考试，英语总是给我拖后腿，但在一次次摸索中，我也在不断进步，总结了一些经验。正所谓“方向不对，努力白费”，正确的学习方法会使我们的学习效率大大提高，从而达到事半功倍的目的。下面是我总结的一些学习英语的经验，希望可以供同学们参考。

第一，做好课堂笔记。顾名思义，课堂笔记便是利用课堂时间将老师所讲的重点、难点、疑点记下，千万不可以“手懒”，对于知识零碎的`英语来说更是如此，好记性不如烂笔头。然后是回顾笔记，回顾笔记才是做笔记的重点，建议大家，周末时专门抽出时间回顾一下当周所做的笔记，这样能有效地缓解紧张的心理，可以让你在下一周的学习中得心应手。举个我自己的例子吧，记得有一次英语抽测，我抱着侥幸的心理，没有做好复习工作，所以考试前就开始临时抱佛脚，结果到了最后，根本没有时间复习完，考试时慌慌张张，考得一塌糊涂。所以说，做好笔记对于学生来说十分重要。

第二，整理回顾错题，对于很多同学来说，都能做到整理错题，但重点是我们不仅仅要整理，更要回顾与反思。所谓“好马不吃回头草”对我们学生万万不可适用，要想成功挤过中考这座独木桥，就必须回顾自己的错题，也防止再出现类似的失误。再举个例子吧，我开始和很多同学一样只是纠一下错，之后就不管了，但是有一次考试，我真记得做过某一题，就是忘了怎么做，结果不仅没做出题，心情也糟糕透顶，考试结果可想而知惨不忍睹，后来我学着经常回顾错题本，慢慢地积累，厚积薄发，考试也不再出现类似的失误。

honor wears different coats to different eyes. i would like to take miss zhang, a primary school teacher, for example. she has been teaching english for more than 30 years. countless students have learnt the first english letter from her and become interested in this language because of her enlightenment. so many years have passed and miss zhang is still an ordinary primary school teacher without any prize, flowers or honorable titles but in my eyes she is the very person who deserve honor and respect. every time i stand on the winner’s box, i couldn’t help thinking of miss zhang. i owe my success in english and my gratitude to her.

In my 18 years of life, there have been many things. University days are the best part of them. I can never forget the days when I stepped into my university. However, it is humanism that stops us from becoming complete animals. Humanism made us realize the significance of living in a harmonious world and turn our spotlight on building eco-friendly industry. In the past years, we stopped killing animals for nutrition we don't need. We passed laws and regulations to protect the least-advantaged people. Because of humanism, we started to consider human beings and nature as a whole and care more than just ourselves. We filled ourselves with reason, love and compassion. Humanism keeps reminding us the consequence of abusing the immense power of technology and the great responsibility we undertake.

As human, we are deeply conscious of our common humanity. There is no way we can walk away without being tortured by our conscience after we did so many damages on nature or other forms of life. Therefore, we modify our behavior to what we think it's humane. In this way, we gradually achieve the ultimate harmony between human and nature.

In fact, humanism has done much more than just making our conscience clear. It actually saves us from destroying our planet. We all know that we can't upset the balance of nature without a price although sometimes people choose to neglect the consequences and give in to the desire of fortune. Silent Spring, a very famous book written by Rachel Carson, revealed the fact that DDT and such chemical products could be very lethal to creatures like birds, and therefore they caused irreversible damage to our eco-system. The manufacturers knew exactly about the side effects but they chose to conceal the fact for their own interests. Without the humanists like Rachel Carson, we will remain ignorant and eventualy face our own doom desperately.

其次就是听课了，上课时，一定要全身心的投入到课堂中， 老师讲的每个语法都要理解并且运用得当，练习是对一天学习的巩固，必须要认认真真写，不会写的不要抄，实在想不出来，就去问问同学，同学也不会，就去询问老师，千万不要只抄一个答案，这是没有任何意义。下次碰到一样题型的题还是一样不会做，所以一定要认真听讲，理解每一个语法，不仅要知道答案，要“知其然！知其所以然”。

With technology developing at a rocket speed, the black mirror is everywhere, on the screens of our cellphones, our computers and our televisions. In our daily life, we are always facing black mirrors. However, we can hardly see ourselves in it. Perhaps sometimes we can, but only as a colourless face. Technology has brought great convenience of communication for information but at the same time, it has webbed our thought.

Several years ago, an article named "Is Google making us stupid" got quite popular on the Internet. At that time, I thought it was just alarmism but now I find it much worse because technology is not just making us stupid but also weakening our independent thought. About half year ago, I was invited to judge a debate competition. When I arrived at the competition room, I noticed it was an old and classic topic, so I was expecting those players to give me some new and special ideas. Unfortunately, when the game continued, I found all the viewpoints and examples they used were totally the same as the previous competition. The only fun during the competition was to predict what they would say. As far as I was concerned, they were not making a debate but replaying a video. Obviously, they just spoke for the black mirror.

Debate was born as an area that we use our own thought to defend our opinion. However due to high technology, all these "My opinion is" in the competition are actually "The opinion I have found is". That is , really, a tragedy because all human dignity lies in thought which has been weakened by convenient technology.

Truth to be told, debate is not the only example. In every field, we can get whatever information or opinions we want from the almighty black mirror. As a consequence, how to restructure human thought has become not only important but also necessary in today's technologically advanced world. And the answer is humanism which stands for human independent special mind. Just as humanism freed people's thought from the force of religion in the Renaissance, I'm waiting in the hope that it can rescue the ideology trapped in high technology. Humanism is a Lodestar guiding us to the era that anyone can form their own opinion about anything but not just speak the words from the Internet.

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm not an anti-technologist but I do care about those disadvantages that technology brings to our present life. With the laundry machine, we don't know how to hand wash clothes clean. With electronic address books, we can even hardly remember our girlfriends or boyfriends' phone numbers. And now with a convenient way to get opinion, we seldom think with our own mind. If so, human is only a reed, the feeblest thing in nature. So follow the spirit of humanism, have an independent mind, so that we can be colorful in those black mirrors.

For they are closely related to mathmatics which I learned nothing about before. However wuth the belief that this is the great chance for me to experience new ideas and challenge myself,I persisted. camp was more like a keg party without any alcohol. and on the very first day our counselor gathered us all together and she taught us a cheer that she said we would be doing every day for the rest of the summer to instill camp spirit. and it went like this: “r-o-w-d-i-e, that's the way we spell rowdie. rowdie, rowdie, let's get rowdie.“ yeah. so i couldn't figure out for the life of me why we were supposed to be so rowdy, or why we had to spell this word incorrectly. (laughter) but i recited a cheer. i recited a cheer along with everybody else. i did my best. and i just waited for the time that i could go off and read my books.

but the first time that i took my book out of my suitcase, the coolest girl in the bunk came up to me and she asked me, “why are you being so mellow?“ -- mellow, of course, being the exact opposite of r-o-w-d-i-e. and then the second time i tried it, the counselor came up to me with a concerned expression on her face and she repeated the point about camp spirit and said we should all work very hard to be outgoing.

and so i put my books away, back in their suitcase, and i put them under my bed, and there they stayed for the rest of the summer. and i felt kind of guilty about this. i felt as if the books needed me somehow, and they were calling out to me and i was forsaking them. but i did forsake them and i didn't open that suitcase again until i was back home with my family at the end of the summer.

I love my parents also; I want them to live a happy life as well.

I want to travel this great country of ours. I want to see the beauty of our country. I want to see the miracles that made this country great! I still remember, about one year ago, i attended a yoga course for the very first time. and to tell you the truth, i went there for a nice figure. however, after practicing for some time, i discovered that there was an ineffable inner-strength burgeoning sneakily in me while i totally focused. in order not to let go this significant power, i started to picture all i wanted in my mind while i was fully concentrating, for i believe the wings of imagination could make things possible. i learned to breathe with my dreams, shaping the eagerness into this elegant gesture of persisting.

And now, if you ask me what exactly is “the art of breathing”, i would say it is indeed “the art of living”. it combines the search of balance, the grace of patience, and the awareness of appreciation.

So even though feelings are tied up with life routines, i could still hold onto that free ego which i have always adored: the girl who is singing under the spotlight, with all her heart and soul; the girl who is persevering with all she believes in and always feels grateful for what has been bestowed on her.

That girl is now standing right here in front of you, hoping that you are all as lucky as she is, living with dreams and love. no matter how tough things get, i tell myself, i tell myself that, every single thing i am doing now is every step closer to that very moment of my trajectory, just like every yoga breath to every blossom moment of my life.

In my opinion，finding me-time is important. With the development of the modern society, we students in China have more and more pressure. We have to spare every minute to study very hard and join various kinds of out-of-class training courses to improve ourselves. So we are really in lack of me-time which is helpful to keep ourselves from being over-stressed、tired and worried.

I do not have as much fun as before and I always miss my childhood. Three hours of homework and two piano lessons one day make me have hardly any me-time to relax myself. I was once an active basketball player on my school team. But now, basketball, my best friend, I haven’t touched it for almost two months. Me- time seems to have become a luxury.

Last week, when I heard there was going to be a basketball match between our school and No 1 Middle School, I was so excited that I rushed home and told my parents the news. I asked my father, " Dad, may I play basketball after school ? The coach says I am the best guard in our school. If I join the school basketball team, we are sure to beat No 1 Middle School this time." My father showed his dispproval and said, " Of course you can’t . I’m disappointed at you. Why do you have such a silly idea? Don’t forget to work hard on your schoolwork and piano lessons." In my parents’ points of view, playing basketball is a waste of time.

As far as I’m concerned, the school assignment to the junior school students is too heavy. To grow into healthy and well-rounded adults, we should be allowed to have more me-time for relaxation. The pressure put on our students by excessive schoolwork can cause serious stress, which is unhealthy physically and mentally.

My dear teachers, I hope you can assign less homework so we students can enjoy a period of me-time. My dear parents, would you please not follow me and remind me of study all the time? Please trust me that I will do my best. My dear friends, why not stop for a while from your heavy homework and do anything you like? It’s me-time. I do think, that a reduction of the current heavy load would be beneficial to us students and to the society as a whole. Finding me-time will make our life rich, colorful and rewarding.

Then, the representative of the bedroom Zhu Guozhang asked us to guess a line of a poem related to the above situation. He added that Li Xinmin alone was born in the year of the dog and the other three were all born in the year of the chicken. They left us all in confusion. And it was our monitor who was quickwitted. He shouted our, “The day breaks as the cock crows three times at dawn.” The hall After that, they had another item.

This time Li Xinmin was placed in the middle of the circle. While he was standing there, the other three stood around him, each bowing down to him at an angle of 120 degrees. It was an idiom. This time I got it right:“The dog stands out among a group of chickens.”

Then we all sang and played games until it was eleven o'clock at night. The old man on night watch came to turn off the lights. We had to tear ourselves away from the party.

It’s noticable that western holidays are becoming increasingly popular day by day, while chinese traditional festivals are being somewhat neglected. Not long before about 10 Doctors in Beijing university and Qinghua unversity announced that we should reject the invasion of western holidays ,because they regard western holidays as an challenge against our traditional festivals and culture.Frankly speaking, I don’t quite agree with ed, we should never neglect or even discard our traditonal festivals as China boasts a brilliant history and splendid traditions. (examples) why can’t we absorb the meaningful western holidays and culture.

There are obvious reasons why some western holidays are so popular in China. On the one hand, some of the western holidays which we Chinese don’t have are reasonable and meaningful, such as Father’s Day and April Fool’s Day etc. On the other hand,the prevalence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in China. Overwhelmed by such a trend,Chinese unconsiciously get involved in western holidays and culture.

With the further development of the whole world, the cultural communication between different countries and nations becomes faster and more and more important. We are indeed from different nations, but we are the citizens of the same world, so the outstanding culture of different nations is the commom wealth of everyone on the only way for us to protect our traditional culture is to reject the foreign culture? The answer is definitely no. What we ought to do is to spare no effort to educate Chinese to get to know and treasure our splendid traditions instead of rejecting foreign culture. Only by educating can we set our confidence and belief towards our culture. Only by educating can we preserve and promote the wealth that our ancesters left for us.At last I’d like to share a famouse saying of Gandhi with all of you ,that is:If you want to change the world, then you must change yourself first."
