So we thought it would bebetter if we could classify rubbish . we told our idea to our teacher and hesupported us very much . We became volunteers to classify rubbish . Firstly wegot three big boxes and put them in a corner of our classroom . One is for wastepaper，one for plastics and Coke cans and the other is for batteries . WithTeachers help，soon all the students took part in the activity of classifyingrubbish .In a month，we collected three boxes of paper，a box of batteries anda box of plastics and Coke cans .We sold them for 28 yuan and bought some youngtrees with the money . We planted the trees around our school . We were allspoken highly of by our school principals. Now we keep on the job and are allproud of improving environment .

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. my name is Yin Tong from China Harbor Solid Waste ManagementProject. I am honored to be here to share my story“onesteponto landfill”.
My impression of the project starts with anticipation. When I was in Beijing, I hadbeen looking forward to improving myself on the project. When I arrived in Colombo in November, I found that many waste was abandoned on the roadside of this city, and some even floated in the river. It made me look forward to project more than before, I hope ourproject can improve the sanitary conditions, and let people live in a cleaner city.
Our project lies in Aruwakkalu, a place with beautiful scenery. Powerful trees, blowing clouds, birds fly through leaves and elephants walk through jungles. But inour project, there are more than 400 tons of waste filled at site everyday. The odor from the waste is scattered in the air, grabbed my throat and made me faint. The first time I came to site, I even tried to escape. “Oh my god”“Ican’t breath”“Someone help me”.As a result, I began to worry that the beautiful scenery would disappear gradually because of the waste.
Then one day, I needed to go deep into the landfill to check the leachate membrane. I was shocked when I facing the landfill, I felt myself so tiny in front of the waste mountain. I took one step onto the waste, I saw the lake waving the glory, I saw the tree striving on the red soil, then I saw the waste around me, I felt into deep sadness. I realize that without the landfill, there may be waste everywhere, then the lake may be polluted, the trees may wither, elephants may die because of eating toxic substance, and people may stand the odor every moment. Only then did I realize the enormity of my responsibility.
Ialways think that I live in this place, drink the same water as local people, enjoy the same sky as local people, maybe I'm a member of Sri Lanka too,so what can I do for Sri Lanka? I must undertake my duty and concentrate to my work. I have spendhalf of my working time on site to push the project forward. Every time I stood on the site, saw the progress we got, I wound think that I was fulfilling my responsibility, I was on the way to feedback the society.
I’m only a common one of China Harbor, and there are many diligent people around us. Actually, since the first engineering team came to Sri Lanka in 1998, China Harbor has begun to write history of dedicationin this land. Generations of forerunners devoted in their jobs, worked hard day and night, contributed to the prosperity of Sri Lanka and South Asia.
As for today, the Belt and Road Initiative promotes economic communication between China and the world. Our company will actively responds to this world-recognized initiative, spreading our footprint all over the world, and providing more high-quality services to the world. Our young engineers are honored to undertake this glorious duty, to strive for Sri Lanka, to strive for south Asia, to strive for the bright future of the world.

DEMAND for graduates in the UK with skills related to sustainability is booming. Academia is waking up to the need to train specialists in green architecture, chemistry and engineering.
Dean Millar founded the world’s first ever BSc course in Renewable Energy at Exeter University after working as an industry consultant.
He said： “A lot of companies were complaining that there was a lack of bright young people suitably trained to work in the renewables business.”
Now his course has around 90 students learning the ins and outs of biomass, tidal, solar and offshore wind power.
Their career prospects are incredibly bright. Employment opportunities are not just limited to the energy sector, but segue into the regulatory and, increasingly, investment sectors as well.
“The big boys are moving in. The returns to be had are significant, especially in terms of wind development,” said Millar. “Financial firms need expertise across the board so they can make sensible investment decisions.”
Students on York University’s Master’s course in Green Chemistry are ideally placed to take advantage of the growing demand in industry for graduates with waste minimization skills.
Professor James Clark is founder of York’s Green Chemistry Centre for Excellence and the world’s leading green chemistry journal, Green Chemistry. He said： “We are now talking to producers of automobiles, electronics, furniture and pharmaceuticals, people who need to use chemistry but don’t think of themselves as chemists.”
As waste production legislation becomes increasingly strict, the traditional emphasis on making as much of a chemical as possible is shifting towards minimizing the waste that process creates. “A lot of chemicals are made from petroleum, but we are developing sustainable ways to make carbon, typically from biomass such as dead plants and trees,” said professor Clark.
All of last year’s graduates quickly found employment, some receiving multiple job offers in a variety of different fields.
Li Li, a 26-year-old Chinese postgraduate student, graduated from York in 20__. She said：
“I hadn’t heard about green chemistry in China. It was a new area and I was curious. Now the government back home needs people who know about these principles.”
Deep in the heart of Wales, 400 students at the Centre for Alternative Technology’s (CAT) Graduate School of the Environment are busy designing and building everything from high insulation wood housing to wind power turbines. With energy costs rising, building firms are increasingly looking to minimize the energy wasted heating and lighting homes, a service CAT students are well-equipped to provide.
A new institute is being built to meet the burgeoning demand for places and a distance learning facility will be launched next September so foreign students can complete CAT courses from home.
The expertise being taught on these courses is essential to a continually expanding range of companies and government authorities. Yet there is a larger goal at stake; the students are at the forefront of the battle against climate change. In the words of Dean Millar, “If we’re going to save the planet, we need to start turning these people out in big numbers.”

The rapid rise in world population is not creating problems only for the developing countries. The whole world faces the problem that raw materials are being used up at an increasing rate and food production can not keep up with the population increase. People in rich countries make the heaviest demands on the world's resources, its food, fuel and land, and cause the most pollution. A baby born in the United States will use in his lifetime 30 times more of the world's resources than a baby born in India. Unless all the countries of the world take united action to deal with the population e xxx plosion there will be more and more people fighting for a share of less and less land, food and fuel, and the future will bring poverty, misery and war to us all.
For most of the developing countries, it is a good idea to control the population growth. For e xxx ample, China has carried out birth control for years. And this plan has a great effect on the world population.
If the population continues to increase, if the air and water continue to be polluted, if we don't do something to protect wild-plant and wildlife species will be declining. Species and biological communities have difficulty adapting to change. Economic opportunities and the quality of life of future generations are also put at risk. Actually, he is one of the greatest scientists in the world. He can afford to buy a motorcade if he likes. He is just an environmentalist and usually doesn't drive unless going shopping, or in bad weather. In America, there are a lot of environmentalists, who actively protect their environment. For example, in Palo Alto city we are living now, there is even a bicycle-to-work day on May 19th every year to encourage people to decrease air pollution caused by cars".
Later, I also learnt another interesting fact of environment protection there. In some states of America, in order to decrease air pollution, save energy and reduce traffic jams, state governments encourage people to take buses to work or to share a car among several people. They even set special "diamond lanes" in some main streets, which are only for the vehicles with 2 or more people.
The positive actions of American people and the effective measures the American government takes in environment protection fully won my respects and deeply affected my consciousness in environment protection.
When I was back in China, people often asked me: " What do you think of America?" I always bolt out:" Wonderful, especially the beautiful environment." Frankly speaking, after several years, the faces of my American teachers and friends have gradually faded away from my mind, but the blue sky, green grass and lovely animals in California often arise in my mind, and became my dream of visiting there again.
The 20xx Olympics provide us with the opportunity to publicize and practise environment protection in Beijing.
